Description: The Human Trafficking Education Seminar is a 3.25-hour seminar (4 hours beginning July 2019) designed to help mental health, medical, and education professionals understand the dynamics of human trafficking; what is looks like in the aforementioned professional settings; and how to appropriately respond to suspected cases of human trafficking. A resource packet is provided to each attendee.  Seminars are live in-person seminars.

Course Learning Objectives

After attending this seminar, attendees will be able to:

1: Differentiate the Federal definition of human trafficking from state and local; and from other crimes most often associated with human trafficking

2: Summarize what human trafficking looks like globally, nationally, state-wide, and locally

3: Identify warning signs and behaviors associated with traffickers, victims, and potential victims

4: Explain connections between human trafficking and early childhood sexual trauma, foster care, and homeless youth.

5: Apply knowledge in professional field; dentistry, medical, nursing, social work, counseling, psychology, psychiatry, pharmacy, physical therapy, education (K-12), case management, family therapy, law enforcement, and others. 

Target Audience: Mental health, medical, and education professionals. General public is welcome to register and attend.

Instructor Bio: Amy Rouleau is the Founder and Executive Director of Restoration Place (2012), a faith-based, nonprofit organization to help minor victims of sexual exploitation. She has earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration, both from the University of Michigan. Amy is an author and national speaker; educating individuals, groups, and communities on how to identify and respond to human trafficking. She has spoken at several global and national anti-human trafficking conferences. Along with her numerous television appearances to give her expertise on combating human trafficking, Amy has given over 400 presentations and training seminars, and written a book: Human Trafficking 101, Stories, Stats, and Solutions. Amy’s personal experience is what drives her passion and love for research; helping survivors of childhood sexual trauma; and, educating on how to identify, respond, and prevent human trafficking.

Continuing Education Credit Offered: 3 hours

Continuing Education Credit offered for social work professionals through Michigan Social Work Continuing Education Collaborative

A Certificate of Completion is offered for all attendees. This seminar covers the State of Michigan requirement for human trafficking training in all healthcare professions. 

Fees: seminars are currently $59 per person, if prepay and $69 if paying at the door. Beginning July 2019, seminars will be $69 per person, if prepay and $79 at the door. The fee covers the costs of attendance, resource packet, and certificates (Certificate of Completion, and Certificate for Continuing Education Credits in Social Work).  

Registration deadline is 5 minutes before the seminar begins. It is best to pre-register as many seminars fill to capacity several days or weeks before hand. 

Refund policy: refunds are given to those who have already paid, were unable to attend, and do not wish to transfer their registration to a future seminar. Refunds must be requested. Refunds may be requested up to 30 days beyond the date of the seminar for which the individual registered. Refunds may be requested and given to any individual who has paid and the seminar has not yet taken place. 

Cancellation policy: any individual may cancel their registration at any point before the seminar. 

Accessibility accommodations: an individual with need for audio, visual, or physical accommodation must contact Amy at 810-399-9713 at least two prior to the seminar the individual is registered. We make every effort to provide interpreters, pdf materials for ‘print to speak’ programs, and obstacle-free locations and spaces. 

  

ACE Approval Statement

Restoration Place, #1720, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved as ACE providers. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. Restoration Place maintains responsibility for this course. ACE provider approval period: 06/14/2019 – 06/14/2020. Social workers participating in this course will receive 4 continuing education credits.

HTES meets the State of Michigan mandate requirements for human trafficking training for healthcare professionals. Your licensing board may require more than the State of Michigan mandates, please check with your licensing board for training approval. 

RULE 338.3901a Requires licensees to complete training in identifying victims of human trafficking beginning with the 2016 renewal cycle. This training requirement will need to be completed prior to the license renewal in 2018. Applicants who apply for a license on or after March 17, 2021 will be required to have completed training in identifying victims of human trafficking.
